Ijesa indigenes under the banner of National Council of Egbe Omo Obokun of Ijesaland in North America (USA, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean Islands) have felicitated with the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, on his enthronment.
This is coming just as the association lauded the peaceful process that threw up the monarch, saying Oba Haastrup’s reign will usher in peace and progress in Ijesaland.
These are contained in a statement signed by the chairman of the organisation, Olurotimi Fafowora, and the chapter presidents from the various states in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
Among those who jointly signed the statement with Fafowora were the Council of Elders for the organisation, chaired by Pastor Joshua Owoeye, Honourable Jimoh Adebayo (President, Baltimore and Washington); Hon. Olubunmi Oduntan (President, California).
Others were Hon. Samuel Babalola (President, Chicago); Honourable Edward Joba Oni (President, Georgia); Honourable Olawale Alonge (President, Indianapolis), among other leaders from other chapters.
The association commended all stakeholders, particularly the kingmakers and other princes who jostled for the stool with Oba Haastrup for peaceful conduct during the process.
“We received the news of your elevation with so much joy considering the fact that you have an enviable record in business and public service.
“Being a man in public reckoning with impressive positive records spanning over a period of time, we are of the opinion that your choice as the Owa Obokun is a positive one, which we hope and believe will usher in a new era of progress and development in Ijesaland as well as for our people home and abroad,” the statement said.
While praying for an impactful and peaceful reign, the statement further added, “We equally urge you to apply all that God has endowed you with to advance and promote the welfare, well-being and progress of our people and land.
“As the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, we urge you to use your position to promote unity and harmony in Ijesaland and to galvanise all shades of opinion to drive the development of Ijesaland.”
The association further urged the monarch to rally all Ijesa indigenes behind himself, adding that ‘As stakeholders, we look forward to joining hands with you as our Grand Patron to further advance the developmental strides of our homeland.”
