THE Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPAN) has urged newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Tolulope Odunaiya, to intervene and resolve all the issues affecting its operations and members as the year 2025 begins.

The pensioners’ unions also urged the Federal government to prioritize people-oriented policies that address the pressing economic challenges facing the nation’s most vulnerable citizens, including pensioners.

Contained in a New Year message authored by the President-General, Elder Benjamin M. Amako, FEPPPAN harped on the need for deliberate efforts to improve the standard of living for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

Amako extended warm greetings to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Honorable Minister of Finance, and the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).

He expressed profound gratitude for the government’s consistency in ensuring the prompt payment of pensions and arrears throughout the past year. This commitment, he noted, has restored dignity and brought relief to countless pensioners.

“As we step into 2025, a year of hope and promise for all Nigerians, I urge the government to prioritise policies that alleviate the current economic hardship and protect the welfare of pensioners who have dedicated their lives to national development,” the President-General said.

He also commended PTAD for its steadfast efforts in resolving issues affecting DBS pensioners.

The message in part reads: The current economic hardship calls for deliberate efforts to cushion its effects on the most vulnerable citizens, including pensioners. I urge government to implement initiatives that will improve the standard of living for pensioners, ensuring they enjoy the fruits of their lifelong contributions to national development.

“I commend PTAD for its steadfastness in addressing issues affecting DBS pensioners. FEPPPAN, however, seeks the intervention of the newly appointed Executive Secretary of PTAD in resolving concerns that impact our association’s existence, operations, and members. I urge the new leadership to ensure fairness and equality in handling the two pensioners’ unions, their issues, and their members.

“FEPPPAN looks forward to a year of collaboration and meaningful progress, where the welfare of pensioners is prioritised and their dignity preserved.”
