Kano State’s newly appointed Commissioner of Commerce, Investment, and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, has announced plans by his ministry to collect data on foreign businesses operating in Kano.
This initiative aims to prevent foreign entities from undermining local small businesses run by indigenes.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Sagagi emphasized the importance of ensuring that companies in the state employ Kano indigenes and adhere to their corporate social responsibility obligations.
He stressed the need to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, stating that his ministry would collaborate with other government agencies to achieve this goal.
According to him, allowing foreign entities to take over small-scale businesses that should be managed by locals would be unwise, highlighting the necessity of regulating this situation.
He added that the state government plans to create an avenue for youths to receive training in the garment industry, enabling them to become self-employed and employers of labor.
According to him, among the top in his agenda is the creation of clusters for a hub of traits, which he believes will flourish with the right support.

He also disclosed that governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the refurbishing of the Garment industries, which was initiated by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Sagagi stated that the ministry will unveiled an agenda to revitalize the state’s economy, adding that over 600 youths in each local government area are expected to benefit from this program.
He therefore highlighted that there is plan by the ministry to
collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land to ensure that businesses have access to the resources they need to succeed.
He said his agency would work closely with the Ministry of Environment to ensure that markets in the state are healthy and attractive to investors.
Sagagi the present government is determined to bring back cooperative shops, which will provide citizens with access to commodities at cheaper rates.
