Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three members of a syndicate specialising in targeting and robbing bank customers in Bauchi, Borno, and Kano.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakili, the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) on January 28, 2025.
The syndicate’s modus operandi involved monitoring bank customers who withdraw substantial amounts of money, and then using locally fabricated master keys to gain unauthorised access to their vehicles and snatch their properties.
The suspects, who confessed to participating in various robbery operations across multiple states, specifically targeted individuals who had withdrawn money from banks.
They would trail their victims to their destinations, and once the victims parked their vehicles, the suspects would use the fabricated keys to unlawfully access the cars.
The police have recovered the vehicles and keys used in committing the crimes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has urged residents to exercise vigilance when departing from banks, avoid parking in isolated areas, and report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.
