The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun and the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muhammed Umar Abba, to urgently bring to book the political hoodlums of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who unleashed terror on innocent members of the opposition APC in Ilesa on Wednesday.
The dastardly incident which left many members of the APC seriously wounded happened around Igbogi area of the state during a campaign in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The chairmanship candidate of our party for Ilesa West Local Government Council Area, Mr. Tobiloba Famurewa, who was part of the campaign only missed being attacked by the dare devil PDP political thugs by the whiskers.
Even though the case had been incidented at Ayeso Police Station, we enjoin both the Inspector-General of Police and the state Police Commissioner to take a deserving interest in the case given the unenviable history of political brigandage and avoidable murders experienced in Ijesaland during the last elections.
It would be recalled that no fewer than 30 members and supporters of our party in Ijesaland were slaughtered like rams by the PDP hoodlums before the 2022 and 2023 elections in the state.
The following PDP thugs have been identified by eye witnesses as the ring-leaders of the attack and we implore the police authorities to effect their arrest, investigate their involvement and subsequently prosecute them to serve as a deterrent to other PDP thugs in Ilesa in particular and other parts of the state in general: Segun Adeyefa, Olaken Adewunmi Oluwajayogbe, Amokeoja Basit, Biodun (aka Obensin), Bidemi Adefidipe, Lekan Adefidipe, Basiru Omole, Lanre Abiola, Ojo Dada, Ayo Babatunde and Igwe Alhaja.
We are wondering what should be the reason for the needless attack of our members during the campaign by the PDP thugs if truly the ruling party is popular in Ijesaland and across the nooks and crannies of the state.
We enjoin the members and supporters of our party in Ilesa and across the state to continue to be law-abiding and sustain their belief in the ability of the leadership of the statutory security agencies to address the untoward development with the desired professional approach with a view to protecting our members who were engaging in the lawful act of campaigning for the forthcoming local government council elections.
