Captain Chris Najomo, Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has emphasised the crucial role of procurement practices in achieving the federal government’s 5-Point Agenda for the aviation sector.

Speaking at a symposium in Lagos, Najomo stressed that effective procurement practices are essential for eliminating waste, curbing corruption, and ensuring value for money, ultimately leading to increased government revenue and improved service delivery.

According to him; “If done right, procurement has the power to attract investment, enhance aviation service delivery, and maximize revenue for the nation.

“To support Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Minister’s 5-Point Agenda, we must embrace a procurement system that among others, reduces financial leakages by enforcing strict compliance with due process, encourages competition and fair bidding to attract credible investors.”

Still speaking, the DG emphasised that NCAA as a regulatory agency, therefore, fully aligned with these principles to promote efficiency, prevent financial mismanagement, and ensure compliance with national policies.

On the international best practices in procurement, Najomo insisted that beyond compliance with local regulations, procurement in aviation must also align with global standards set by organizations such as: the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), the World Bank and Other International Development Partners.
Among the key international best practices he listed included: E-Procurement and Digitalisation: Automating procurement processes to minimise human interference and enhance transparency, sustainable and Green Procurement: Prioritising environmental and social considerations in procurement decisions.

His words: “By integrating these best practices, we will improve efficiency, reduce corruption risks, and maximize the impact of every procurement decision on the sector.

“The future of Nigeria’s aviation sector depends on our ability to implement a procurement system that is efficient, transparent, and aligned with global best practices. By embracing due process and procurement best practices, we can fully align with: Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic transformation and good governance.”
