The Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt will on the 15th of September, 2022 commence hearing on the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party in the state against the Social Democratic Party over alleged non-compliance to new electoral act.
The PDP is asking the court to nullify the national assembly primaries that brought in the candidates of the social Democratic Party for alleged noncompliance to the electoral guidelines.
The ruling party in Rivers State are claiming that the SDP conducted its party primaries in a single venue in Port Harcourt rather than the wards and Local Government Areas as “prescribed” by the new electoral law and therefore contravened the act.
When the matter was mentioned in court on Tuesday, counsel to the SDP Candidates, Femi Falana (SAN) moved a motion for extension of time to enable him respond to the originating summons of the PDP and to regularize his processes.
Counsel to the PDP, Emmanuel Okala, (SAN) did not oppose the motion.
