Nationnewslead reports that The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, Akwa Ibom State, Senator Bassey Akpan popularly called OBA was said to have feigned to be mentally unstable inorder to secure his release.

It could be recalled that the Senator has been in Ikot Ekpene custodial centre, Akwa Ibom State having been found guilty of money laundering and corruption by the federal high court.

Prior to his bail grant on Wednesday, December 28, OBA was said to be acting strange while in custody which made the officials to be alarmed.

According to an insider source who did not want his name in print, “for about three days, Oba neither ate nor talked to anybody in the prison. He pretended to be mentally deranged and a medical doctor was called to examine him.

“The medical doctor after examinations claimed that OBA has a mental problem and an underlying kidney problem.”

Out source said it was from the medical report generated that was used to approach a vacation court in Rivers State that granted bail to the convicted Senator.

However, when a lawyer, Kingsley Okon (Esq) was contacted on the matter, he said the court wouldn’t have denied the convicted Senator bail application having cited the Certified True copies of the medical report presented adding that in law one must be alive to pursue a case.

Okon who explained that even though OBA is yet to be released because he has not perfected his bail conditions noted that granting him bail on health grounds does not amount to being discharged and acquitted.

Speaking on the possibility of upturning the case by the federal high court, the lawyer said: “no, I did not see the possibility of the Appellate Court upturning the judgement of the lower court as far as he(OBA) admitted collecting those vehicles and paying Three Billion Naira into Jide Omokore’s account.

“A statement of account was also generated and tendered in court; a document that was admitted in evidence? with this glaring evidence, I did not see the possibility of the appeal court upturning the position of the lower court except there is a form of foul play.”

Meanwhile, It was gathered that governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was instrumental to the release of OBA.

OBA’s wife according to a reliable source had gone to meet with Gov Wike over the weekend to use his influence to secure her husband’s release since Senator Godswill Akpabio after collecting Two Billion Naira from them to bribe appeal court judges did not succeed.

Our source added that Akpabio said he had met with president Mohammadu Buhari to intervene in the matter but he(President) did not show any interest in the matter noting that OBA’s wife told Wike that he was his final hope. Continue Reading
