The abductors of Prof Onje Gye-Wado, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, have demanded a ransom of N70 million for his release.
Gye-Wado was kidnapped by gunmen in Gwagi village of the Wamba Local Government Area of the state on Friday, April 7, 2023.
According to a family source who confirmed the development to Punch, the kidnappers have been in touch with the family and have demanded the sum of N70 million.
However, due to the unavailability of cash during the Easter holiday, the family members have pleaded with the abductors to accept N2 million instead.
“We can not raise anything more than that due to the public holidays declared by the Federal Government for the Easter celebration,” the source said.
The situation remains tense as negotiations are ongoing for the safe return of the former Deputy Governor.
