The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abias State has announced its decision to approach the Court of Appeal in Owerri to challenge a High Court ruling which allegedly sought to disqualify its candidates for the November 2, 2024, local government election.
Speaking at an expanded South East zonal meeting on Saturday in Umuahia, the State Chairman of the party, Abraham Amah, clarified that the court ruling did not affect the PDP’s executive structure as widely speculated.

He debunked rumours that the judgement dismantled the party’s leadership from the ward to state level.

“We started waiting for the CTC from the 6th of May, 2025, and few days ago, we received the CTC. The Judgment was very clear and simple. No executive from ward to state level was disqualified,” Amah stated.
He added, “The judgment only tried to disqualify our councillorship and local government chairmanship candidates of the last local government election. But for whatever reason that was done, we have decided to go to Appeal.”
Amah confirmed that the party’s legal team had prepared and filed all necessary documents at the Bende High Court and that the appeal would be formally lodged in Owerri next week.
He praised party stalwarts, including former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Senator Austin Akobundu, for their continued support in ensuring unity within the party.
Other party leaders at the meeting, including South East PDP National Vice Chairman Chidiebere Goodluck and Deputy National Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, reaffirmed their recognition of Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.
