Academic activities of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, were on Tuesday grounded to a halt following a protest embarked upon by the Academy Staff Union of the Polytechnic to register their displeasure over the suspension of the Institution’s Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo.
The Union which condemned the suspension, described the step taken by the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke as an aberration against the constitution of the institution and has suspended the school academic activities over the suspension.
Speaking on the suspension, the President of the union, Dr. Fatai Afolabi while addressing a mammoth crowd who were in solidarity rally for the suspended rector, frowned at the action of the governor.
Checks by this reporter into the campus revealed that the protest disrupted academic works of the Polytechnic as students were seen in groups discussing the development which they claimed had hindered their lectures.
One of the students who simply identified as Abimbola told our reporter that he could not blame neither the government nor the protesting union on campus because he was not privy to accurate information that led to the suspension of the rector. He however appealed to all concerned authorities to, in the name of God, act speedily to address the situation, for them to forge ahead in their academic pursuit.
Meanwhile, many lecture rooms were deserted as scores of students were seen watching the happenings while others were going back to their different houses.
