Former Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board and a front-line community leader, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole, appealed to Nigerians on Monday to be patient with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the battered economy of the country, saying this period is a passing phase that will soon be over.

He, however, charged civil servants to consider N62,000 as their minimum wage for now, hoping that gradually things would get better.

Alhaji Kolawole, who made the appeals in an interview with newsmen in his country home in Modakeke, noted that very soon gas will come down; presently, filling stations are being tested for skeletal jobs in preparation for a reduction in petroleum products.

“Dangote has reduced diesel from N1,600 to N1,200 in the last few months and has said that by June or July, petroleum will come down very soon to N500 to N400.”

“We should note that the economic downturn is global; even the Japa Syndrome is facing it now. So, what is happening is not in Nigeria alone; it is a passing period.”.

“The government is deliberately rejigging the system, and when you are rejigging the system, you have to harshen the system.

“This is a bitter pill that Nigeria is taking now; this is an indication that the period will be short-term, and hopefully, within the next year, things will change for the better.”

“For it has not just happened, but it has been programmed; fuel subsidy was removed from N200 to N700, sometimes N800 per litre; honestly, I don’t know how people cope, yet life continues; I believe there’s light after the tunnels.”

“We have capable people handling it and hoping that they will get it right very soon, especially because of the masses., he stressed.”
