Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its determination to enhance the welfare of vulnerable groups in society through encouraging groups that are out to improve livelihoods of their members in the state.
Governor Ahamadu Umar Finitri made this statement during the inauguration of an empowerment program for agricultural cooperative societies in the state.
The empowerment programme, which was organized yesterday by the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development, had in focus the hope of giving succor to groups that are ready to assist themselves.
Governor Finitri, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, announced the distribution of agricultural inputs to over 1,000 farmers through 84 registered cooperative societies.
According to the governor, this initiative is designed to complement government efforts in promoting inclusive development and shared prosperity among citizens.
He emphasised the importance of agricultural production and value chain development which is one of the key priorities for this administration.
He noted that cooperative societies play an essential role in ensuring food security for households and commercial markets alike.
He added that cooperative societies can contribute significantly to job creation, poverty reduction, and social cohesion if well managed.
“We as a government are committed to investing in the physical, social, and economic security of the state through this kind of initiative”
He congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to utilize the provided inputs wisely to enhance their farming activities, improve their livelihoods, and elevate their standard of living.
Earlier, Mr. Hammanjumba Gatugel, the Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, said, the establishment of the ministry in 2019 was aimed to create initiatives and strategies that promote entrepreneurship and support business and industry growth.
“There are over 2,000 registered cooperative societies across the 21 local government areas, actively engaged in various trades such as farming, trading, tailoring, fashion design, welding, fabrication, barbing, hairdressing, and food processing”.
He noted that the various activities implemented by the ministry were supported by Governor Fintiri and are focused on fostering entrepreneurship, creating wealth, and serving as catalysts for social capital development, job creation, poverty alleviation, and economic progress.
