The Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC in the November 11th election in Imo State, Prof. James Okoroma has cried out over the continued killings in the state and assured to go into negotiation with non-state actors to ensure peace if elected governor.
The Governorship is hopeful in a media chat in Owerri Sunday vowed to prioritize security as a concrete measure to bring to a halt incessant killings in the state.
He said: “The killings must stop, our people must be allowed to go back to their businesses and those who deserted their homelands must go back”.
According to Prof. Okoroma, there must be a need for convergence between the state actors and non-state actors for peace to reign in Imo State.
He recalled that some countries in the world had lasting peace today through the government’s negotiation with non-state actors.
According to him in Cameroon, Julius Tabe who happened to be a separatists leader was sentenced to life in jail for declaring himself President of Ambazonia the Anglophone part of Cameroon, but the Cameroon government brought him out and negotiated with him for peace to reign in the country.
Again in Cambodia, the government of that country had to negotiate with the separatists there to bring back peace in the country, adding that the same thing happened in Southern Thailand in the area called Patani where the government equally negotiated with the Muslim separatists to ensure peace.
He said: “for peace to reign all over the world, there must be a negotiation between the state actors and non-state actors”
While soliciting for massive support from all Imolites, Okoroma said that his government would be ready to do everything humanly possible to return peace to the state if elected as the next Governor of Imo State.
He regretted that Imo State had lost a lot in the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as a result become the least attracted (FDI) in the South East due to insecurity adding that even one of the Chinese investments meant for Imo State was moved to Ogun State.
He said: “For peace to reign in the state is a task that must be done by ADC Government if voted into power”.
