The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the continuous escalation of fuel prices in the country.
In a statement signed by NANS Senate President, Henry Okunomo, the association attributed the economic instability to the astronomical increase in fuel prices since 2019.
NANS demanded the removal of Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) due to alleged incompetence, stating that his tenure has been “an unmitigated disaster” that has wreaked havoc on the Nigerian economy.
The association contended that Kyari’s continued leadership is detrimental to the nation’s economic well-being and stability, and urged President Tinubu to replace him with a more competent and visionary leader.
NANS emphasized that the fuel price hike has had severe consequences, including inflation, diminished purchasing power, and a decline in the standard of living, exacerbating poverty, unemployment, and social unrest.
The students’ body demanded a better future and urged President Tinubu to act decisively to address the situation.
