Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent claim of creating 250,000 jobs in Osun has raised eyebrows and sparked controversy. The Governor made this assertion during the inauguration of the Imole Youth Corps in Osogbo, where 10,000 PDP youths and elderly were reportedly engaged.
In a move that contradicts Governor Adeleke’s job creation claim, his administration sacked 1,500 teachers employed by the previous administration. To date, the Adeleke-led administration has not employed replacements for those teachers. Similarly, health workers in the state have not been spared, with many employed by the previous administration shown the way out.
Governor Adeleke’s claim of creating 250,000 jobs is inconsistent with the available data on employment in Osun State.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the unemployment rate in Osun State has increased under the current government, with a significant number of youths unemployed.
The Adeleke administration’s policy actions also contradict the job creation claim. The sacking of 1,500 teachers and health workers, as well as the non-replacement of these personnel, suggests that the administration’s policies have led to job losses, rather than creation.
The Governor’s administration has failed to provide transparent and accountable records of its job creation efforts.
The lack of evidence to support the claim, combined with the inconsistencies and contradictions outlined above, raises serious questions about the credibility of the assertion.
