Suspected motorcycle snatchers struck again on Saturday in Arigidi Akoko, Akoko North West local government area of Ondo state, killing a commercial motorcyclist rider identified as Yakubu.

Yakubu remains were found in his pool of blood along Arigidi Akoko/Okeagbe road with his throat slit open while his motorcycle was taken away by the suspected snatchers.

The incident was reported at the police station in the area while men of the Amotekun corps in the area visited the scene of the incident and subsequently took the corpse to the morgue.

The killing of Yakubu was the fourth in the community within the last one month, three other okada riders had been gruesomely killed by some suspected snatchers.

It will be recalled that a suspect was arrested at the Ondo/Kogi border by security operative after killing the owner of the motorcycle, while the suspect was transferred to Police headquarters in Akure.

The development led some women from Akoko community to protest over the gruesome killings of Okada riders and farmers in the area, calling for the arrest of the killers.

It was gathered that community leaders from Ogbagi Akoko had earlier held a meeting on the unusual killings of motorcyclists in Akoko area and called for a special task force in the area.

The community leaders expressed apprehension over the turn of events in the area, noting that farmers could no longer go to farm, while Okada are killed at will.

The leaders stressed the need to confront the surge in violence in the area while the Akoko Security and Economic Development Council emphasised the urgent need for community-based security measures to tackle the escalating crisis.

It was however, gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okeagbe, along with Civil Defence and Amotekun Corps members, have swung into action with assurance that the suspect will be arrested

Attempts to speak with the Ondo Police spokesman, Funmi Odunlami, were not successful as she could not be reached for comments.
