A 40ft container fell on Ojuelegba bridge in the evening of Saturday, crippling vehicular movement along the Funso Williams Avenue in Surulere area of Lagos. This is even as no life was lost as there was no vehicle beside the truck that was carrying the container when the incident happened.
As at the time of filling in this report, the traffic gridlock had stretched as far as Stadium/Iponri area of Lagos.
When contacted, Spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Mr Nosa Okunbor initially said he is not aware of the development but will get in touch with the emergency crew of the agency to quickly move in towards the scene of the accident.
However, about an hour later, Mr Nosa Okunbor called our Correspondent and said that LASEMA is putting in effort to remove the falling container.
“I can assure you that the container will be off the road in the next 30 minutes. Our officials are already there to ensure that, “Nosa Okunbor told the Sunday Tribune exclusively.
Recall that Ojuelegba bridge had become scene of container falling accidents which had claimed lives in recent past.
The Lagos State Government, aftermath the January accident in which nine lives were lost when a container fell on a commercial bus in Ojuelegba, had promised to erect barriers on the bridge to forestall future accidents.
However, checks by the Sunday Tribune revealed that the barriers are yet to be mounted at the entrance of the Ojuelegba bridge three months after the accident that claimed nine lives.
