The rampaging gunmen in Plateau have killed another six people at a mining site in the Jos South local government area of the State.
The Nigerian Tribune learned the gunmen were on their way to attack some villages in the council area when they accosted a group of young men at a mining site in Farin-Lamba community at about 9:45 pm on Monday
A source close to the community revealed that the gunmen suspected of being terrorists opened fire on them at random and succeeded in killing six of them on the spot, while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds.
The source said the sound of the gunshot created an air of apprehension in the neighboring communities as many fled into the nearby hills while others ran into the bush for fear of being killed.
It was gathered that the gunmen ransacked the community before they disappeared from the scene after two hours of deadly operations.
On Tuesday, women from the communities barricaded the Farin Lamba-Abuja road to protest the killings, and it took the security agencies several hours to clear the highway for free flow of traffic.
When contacted, the spokesman of Plateau Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, who confirmed the incident, said men of the command have been deployed to the affected community.
He added that the highway barricaded by the women had been opened up for traffic, and the women have since returned to their community.
It would be recalled that there was an early security intelligence report on Monday, shortly before the attack, that armed militias were spotted moving to possibly attack certain villages around Riyom and Jos South Local Government Area of the State.
According to the National President of Berom Youth Moulders, Barrister Dalyop Solomon, shortly after the message was passed on, the gunmen struck in Farin-Lamba in the Jos South local government area of Plateau.
Dalyop who strongly condemned persistent attacks and isolated killings in some parts of the state implored the security agencies to be more proactive.
