AGILE to address grievances in Sokoto communities

Sokoto AGILE project is taking proactive steps to address grievances in schools and communities through its Grievance Redress Committees.

The project is aiming to address this through committees comprising members from the School Base Management Committee, Guidance and Counseling, and the local community, ensuring a collaborative approach to conflict resolution.

Speaking on the development, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tukur Alkali, said the committees will handle expected grievances through suggestion boxes placed in strategic locations.

Tukur Alkali stated this during a workshop tagged “train the trainers workshop” held in Sokoto on Friday.

He said the approach enables community members to easily report concerns, which the committees can then address.

“By establishing these committees, the Sokoto AGILE project demonstrates its commitment to transparency, accountability, and community participation in addressing grievances.

“This proactive approach will help prevent and resolve potential conflicts, ensuring the project’s success.

“The train the trainers workshop for the formation of grievances redress Committees at School and Communities level in Agile Schools was made to resolve issues that may arise during the project implementation in schools.

Alkali who was represented by the Executive Secretary, Sokoto State Female Education Board, Prof Mustapha Namaka also expressed hope that the Committees will work diligently toward achieving positive results.

“So, these Committees are there to mitigate all grievances that are likely going to arise,you will at it from the perspective of inclusiveness, issues inclusivity is very important.

“This is because we may face some pressures from that angle especially when the construction and renovations of Schools are not done in a manner that our schools and all the facilities are inclusive friendly, so we expect some grievances from the communities.

“But with these Committees we are going to handle all the expected grievances as there is going to be placement of suggestion boxes in all the strategic places in our schools,so that who ever has grievances or what ever complain should just slot it into the box,so that the Committees can handle the matter”.

Deputy State AGILE Coordinator, Dr. Kabiru Garba, emphasised that the Committees will mitigate grievances and addresses concerns arising from construction, renovations, teaching, and learning among others.

Sabon Birni noted that at school level,the Committees have the mandate to resolve grievances and can proceed to the level of agile if the issue at stake has not been resolved.

Hajiya Zainab Muhammad Auwal, the Social Safe Guard Officer in Sokoto said “We have committee of three people which comprises that of SBMC,Guidance and Counseling,Community leader and were given every mandate to contact the community for their grievances so as to facilitate in solving them.

Muhammad further said a suggestion boxes would be displace for easy complaints and suggestions from the community members.

Papers were presented by various resources that centre on grievances avoidance and minimising strategies at the time prime for processing grievances.
