Nationnewslead reports that The Joint Action Committee of the Akwa Ibom State University will on Monday (today) commence its suspended industrial action over alleged non payment of 10 months’ salary arrears and other issues.
The JAC comprises the institutions’ Academic Staff Union of Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union Universities, Senior Staffs Association of Nigeria Universities and the National Association of Academic Technologists.
The body had in its congress of Tuesday, February 16, 2021, suspended its strike to enable the state government and management to resolve outstanding issues which also included payment of 2020 leave grant and increment of subvention to the university.
But in a statement jointly issued on Sunday by the Chairman of ASUU, Dr Ime Okop; and Chairperson of NASU, Idongesit John, JAC expressed dismay that the management had reneged on agreements.
The statement which was also signed by the Chairman of SSANU, Emmanuel Okon; and the Chairman of NAAT, Ndipmong Udoakpan, called on it members to commence the strike as from 12am on Monday (today).
“JAC has observed with great discontent the obnoxious return to 75 per cent salary payment for two months (February and March 2021 respectively), while nothing is heard of the 10 months 25 per cent salary arrears owed to ASUU members. By this the university management has breached the terms of the agreement….
“All members by this letter are notified of the resumption of JAC indefinite strike, which shall be total, comprehensive and absolute, commencing by 12am Monday and shall last until all issues are thoroughly resolved,” the statement reads partly.
