Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has planned to improve the infrastructure and security of lives in and around the campus of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The governor made this disclosure on Saturday during an unscheduled visit to the university to assess some of the challenges faced by students of the institution.

After the tour, the governor directed the state’s Ministry of Infrastructure to begin the rehabilitation of the alternative road into the AAUA campus.

“There had been a series of accidents near the university due to the road’s topography, where vehicles, particularly trucks and lorries, lose control and run into the school gate area, resulting in tragic loss of lives,” he said.

“We are now working on creating alternative routes for heavy vehicles, which will be included in our budget. Our goal is to enhance the safety and quality of life for the university community, which comprises over 20,000 students. We are committed to providing the necessary infrastructure and amenities to support them,” the governor said.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Olugbenga Ige, conducted the governor on a tour of the main gate and the alternative route into the school.

The university community has been using the alternative road leading to the second gate of the school after the main gate was shut due to incessant loss of lives to accidents on the gate.

Professor Ige informed the governor that past efforts to rehabilitate the alternative road in recent years had proved abortive, while the management has opened more routes for ease of commuting for staff and students.
