The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Imo has distanced itself from a petition circulating in the media, accusing the Nigeria Police of defilement.

PCRC Chairman, Mr Chima Chukwunyere, addressed journalists in Owerri on Friday, describing the petition as a malicious attempt to tarnish the PCRC’s image and undermine its integrity.

Chukwunyere urged the public to disregard the petition, which alleges defilement of women by police personnel and clarified that it does not represent the interests of the PCRC.

The petition, addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has been circulating in the media, but the PCRC chairman emphasised that it is not a genuine representation of the committee’s views or concerns.

“It is my responsibility to protect members of the PCRC but this manner of fabrication against the police is not in our nature,” Chukwunyere added.
