A civil rights group, Talakawa’s Parliament (TP) has called Believers Love World (BLW) Nigeria Limited to obey the High Court of Ogun State, presided over by Justice B.B. Adebowale, who it said ordered the demolition of an unauthorised fence blocking an access road to one Mr. Paul Audu’s residence.
The leader of the civil rights group, Marxist Kola Edokpayi, who disclosed this while addressing journalists in Benin City claimed that Mr. Audu had been using the access road for more than 10 years before it was blocked.
In the statement issued by the Talakawa’s Parliament, it accused the church in Asese community in Ogun of allegedly employing the services of some security agencies to obstruct the enforcement of the court.
The group called on the Federal Government to investigate the activities of the security agencies and call them to order to avoid a repeat of what happened in Okuama in Delta State
The group also demanded that the perimeter fence blocking the access road approved by the Ogun State government should be removed and be erected where it should be in compliance with the outcome of the police investigations and the valid order of court.
However, another human rights group, based in Abuja, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), countering Talakawa’s Parliament claims, said the church never employed the services of the security agencies, rather it was the sporadic gun shots allegedly fired by some thugs in that area that drew the attention of the security agencies who later came to restore peace.
Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, National Coordinator of HURIWA, commended the security agencies for saving the day.
“The conflict originated from an interlocutory order issued by Justice B.B. Adebowale of the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta on July 1, 2024, in favour of Mr. Paul Audu, mandating the demolition of a fence between his property and the Inner City Mission.
“The defendants, Inner City Mission for Children, promptly appealed the order the same day and obtained a notice of appeal and a stay of execution, which were duly served on all relevant parties,” Onwubiko said.
