THE former speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr Najeem Salaam, has urged Nigerians irrespective of status, religion, and political class to always think about God when doing anything either in a public or private capacity.

He said people should know that God is watching every man’s actions and inaction and would give reward accordingly one day.

The former lawmaker gave this admonition at the installation ceremony of Mr Akinbamidele Akinnagbe, the Permanent Secretary of Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), as the pioneer Lay President of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Idanre Diocese, Ondo State, recently.

The Idanre Diocese and the Bishop of the diocese, Right Reverend Mathew Falade, were also newly inaugurated and enthroned, respectively at the event.

According to Najeem, God is beyond a religion-faith.

He said, “God is not about whether I’m a member of this particular church or mosque nor He is about whether I’m a Muslim or a Christian or a traditionalist.

“God is more than that. He’s a Supreme Being and Omnipresent, who will one day question how we have spent our lives on earth.

“That is why we should try whether it’s convenient or not, to do good to people we have a path with and to humanity generally.

“That means we should be our brothers’ keepers and that reminds me that people who involve themselves in evil and criminal activities do so because they don’t know or they know but don’t bother that they will one day face God’s judgment.

“So, the supremacy of God and His Omnipresent nature should be enough to guide our thinking, actions, and inaction, particularly towards our fellow beings.

“That is what will help us to have a society we will all be proud of and happy to live in.

Salaam, however, urged the new Lay President, Mr Akinnagbe, to continue doing good and impact humanity even beyond the church and he wished him well.

In his remark, Mr Akinnagbe who is also a welfare officer of the 1993 Political Science Alumni Association of Obafemi Awolowo University( OAU), Ile-Ife, said his appointment for the new assignment is a call for more service to God and humanity.

He promised to deliver with the help of God.

Other dignitaries that graced the event include the deputy chairman of Afenifere, Lagos chapter, Mr Lanre Anjolaiya; chairman of Osun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr Tope Mustapha; Mrs Fola Bajo-Akinyele; Mr Ilupeju Muhammed, and Dr Wale Olaopa.
