The leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governance Advisory Committee (GAC) in Lagos State on Tuesday threw their support for the removal of Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

The party leadership and GAC, who met with the lawmakers led by the newly elected and sworn-in Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, at the State House Marina, behind closed doors, gave their blessing to the change of leadership at the State Assembly, which took place on Monday.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Meranda, who briefed newsmen alongside members of the State Assembly, said they were at the State House to brief leaders of their party about the new development in the House and seek their blessing.

“We have come here this afternoon to meet with our leaders, the leaders of the party to brief them about what happened at the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday (Monday), to seek their blessing and which we have got,” she said.

It will be recalled that former Speaker Obasa was impeached by the lawmakers on Monday on allegations of gross misconduct, poor leadership, high-handedness, lack of commitment to legislative business, lack of regard for lawmakers, intimidation, and suppression of lawmakers, among others.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser (SA) to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, has washed off the governor’s hands from the change of leadership that took place in the State House of Assembly, saying that the state helmsman had no hand in the removal of the former Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Akosile maintained that Governor Sanwo-Olu had no hand in the matter, saying that the governor was busy with serious matters, and taking care of the over 20 million Lagos population.

According to him, “What happened in the hallowed chamber of the House of Assembly was purely the prerogative of the legislators.

“I mean, we saw it on the media, just like you, that the legislators removed the Speaker. We watched like every other person. The governor must have watched it like any other person.

“I don’t think there is anything more to it other than that. So, there is no hand of the governor in the impeachment of the Speaker.”
