All Progressives Congress (APC) have maintained dominance in the Cross River North, winning two state constituencies (Yala and Obanliku) while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) consolidate on the party’s influence in the southern senatorial district to win the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency bye elections.

While announcing the results early Sunday morning, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) noted that APC’s Emil Inyang polled the highest number of votes in the re-election of Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency.

Inyang secured victory in seventeen polling units, while his PDP rival, Austin Aidam, won in two units. Inyang of PDP got 15,930 votes, defeating his closest opponent, Austin Aidam of the PDP, who secured 12,417 votes.

In the Obanliku state constituency re-run, Ashakia Pius of the PDP garnered 275 votes across two polling units, extending his total tally to 10,587 votes. Reacting to the victory, Senator Agom Jarigbe, political leader of the PDP in the Northern Senatorial District, thanked voters for their steadfast support.

He assured the party’s commitment to fulfilling election promises and working for the good of the nation.

“We have once again shown that PDP remains the dominant party in my senatorial zone just as the people have demonstrated their confidence in us by voting for our candidates at the re-run polls, an indication that we are on ground.

“I enjoin the winners to always imbibe the culture of working together for the benefit of our people who have freely given us their mandates in trust as well as continue to fulfil electoral promises to our constituents,” he said.

The recent election results highlight the strength of the PDP in the Northern Senatorial District and the continued influence of the APC in the Southern Senatorial District, setting the stage for further political momentum in Cross River.
