Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, says the ruling party will establish a National Institute of Progressive Studies as part of its new initiatives in 2024.
He disclosed this while speaking with State House correspondents after a visit of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to President Bola Tinubu on Thursday in Lagos.
Mr Ganduje said the institute would serve as a platform to enshrine the tenets of the democratic system among party members and the citizens.
“The establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies is to enlighten our members, even members of the public, on the doctrine of democracy, on the issues of internal democracy, issues of avoiding hate speeches, and also issues of abiding by the rules of the law about election and other processes.
“So, you can see that this institution will work with the government in terms of coming up with appropriate policies that are conducive for democracy,” Mr Ganduje explained.
The APC chief also revealed that the party would embark on e-registration of old and new members to have a data bank to manage the party issues effectively.
Mr Ganduje also mentioned that Nigerians would enjoy more dividends of democracy in the coming years of the new administration of Tinubu and his cabinet members.
“Nigerians should expect more from the government of the federation and the APC as an institution,” said the former Kano governor. “You have seen how we have started forging ahead in order to increase the coverage of the party in terms of having more states for the party, more members of National Assembly, state assemblies, and we are continuing to do that.”
He explained that the NWC members were in the president’s Lagos residence to felicitate with him on the Christmas festivity and to condole him on the death of two of its members.
“We are here in order to share the joy of Christmas and also the joy of the New Year 2024,” added the APC chair.
Mr Ganduje condoled with Mr Tinubu on the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and former speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba.
