National Electoral Commission INEC has declared the Governorship Candidate of All progressive congress (APC), Hon. Muhammed Umaru Bago as the winner of the March 18th, 2023 Governorship election in Niger.

The state Returning Officer of the Governorship Election in the State, Professor Clement Alawa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, University of Abuja announced the results at the INEC state headquarters in Minna.

The returning officer announced that Hon.Muhammad Umar Bago of APC scored 469, 896 to defeat his closest challenger, Hon . Isah Liman Kantigi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 387, 476 votes.

The Labour party Candidate, Mr Joshua Bawa came a distant third position with 3, 415 votes while, Ibrahim Yahaya of the New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP) came fourth with 3, 378 votes.

The APC Governorship candidate won in 21 out of the 25 local government Areas of Niger State, while his PDP Counterpart won in four council areas namely Edati, Mokwa, Lavun and Gbako local government Areas.

In his acceptance speech, the Niger State Governor-elect, Hon. Umaru Mohammed Bago appreciated Nigerlites for finding him worthy and gave him their mandate, to become the Niger State Governor.

Bago in his acceptance speech after receiving the final results of the election by the party’s representative Alhaji Nma Kolo called on the opposition party members in the state to eschew all Political differences and make Niger State a focus for progress.

The Governor-elect appreciates his counterpart from the PDP, in the just concluded Governorship election in the state, Hon. Isah Liman Kantigi who conceded defeat for showing spirit of sportsmanship by accepting the outcome of the election in good faith

He thereby implored his followers to avoid provocative jubilation as he is going to run all-inclusive governance in the state in the next four years.
