AS the world commemorates International Hausa Day, the management of Arewa24 has restated the commitment of the Hausa satellite TV station to broadcasting high-quality Hausa language programmes, reflecting the values, traditions, innovations, globalisation and everyday experiences of the Hausa-speaking community across the globe.

Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, Network AREWA24 Limited, Celestine Umeibe, also used the opportunity to highlight the contribution of the satellite TV station, with a global viewership exceeding 45 million, to the culture and tradition of the Hausa people.

According to him, Ranar Hausa Ta Duniya began in 2015 when BBC Hausa staff member, Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari and some of his friends on social media declared the day as an opportunity for Hausa speakers to gather and discuss the progress and challenges facing the language in the 21st century.

Since its inception, he added, Arewa24 has been a beacon of cultural preservation, promoting the Hausa language and enriching the lives of its viewers through diverse and engaging contents.

Besides entertaining viewers with popular shows, through TV series and movies, the station, he stated, also plays a crucial role in improving knowledge and awareness on key issues, such as drug abuse, thuggery, corruption and other vices affecting the community, while also proffering solutions.

He stated that through dramas, TV series and movies like Dadin Kowa, Kwana Chasa’in, Arewa24 tackles important topics such as health, education and social justice, among others, while also showcasing the Hausa traditional systems.

“Arewa 24 also highlights the vibrant cultural activities and thriving businesses within the Hausa community, further solidifying its role as a Hausa language and cultural ambassador on the global stage.

“In a world where languages and cultures are increasingly under threat, Arewa24 has taken a stand to ensure that the Hausa language remains vibrant and relevant,” Umeibe stated.

He added that the station’s dedication to producing content that is both informative and entertaining has not only elevated the status of the Hausa language but also positioned it prominently in the global media landscape.
