Anambra Governor, Professor Charles Soludo has expressed profound gratitude to the men and women who had paid the ultimate price in the defence of the country’s peace and security, especially the uniformed men and women, as well as the Anambra Vigilante Group, who are currently serving in Anambra.

Governor Soludo stated this at a Wreath laying and parade ceremony to mark the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

During the ceremony, the Governor led other dignitaries to lay wreaths at the base of the cenotaph within the premises, which stands as a symbol of the sacrifices made by Nigerian armed forces.

The governor, while speaking, made a call for collective action towards achieving security of life and property in the state.

While asking the Armed Forces not to relent in enforcing law and order with utmost professionalism, the Governor called on the citizens to be the change they want to see by showing empathy to law enforcement agents.

While describing order as the first law in heaven, the Governor admonished that people do not pick or choose which law to obey, as everyone in a civilized society has an obligation to abide by the law, to avoid anarchy.

He reiterated his administration’s policy of “see something, say something” and pledged his administration’s support to those in service, the legion and widows of the fallen heroes.

The Governor urged Nigerians to always remember and honour the fallen soldiers as well as those who continue to serve in the military.

The event was attended by top military officials, members of the state government, representatives of non-governmental organisations, and other members of the public.

The armed forces remembrance day is observed annually on the 15th of January to honour the nation’s war heroes.

The event featured wreath laying, parade by the military, gun salute and release of pigeon to signal peace.
