As part of its efforts aimed at supporting the underprivileged who have health conditions and lack access to medical care, the Association of Rural Surgical Practitioners of Nigeria (ARSPON), has concluded a three-day free surgical outreach for residents of Okeho, in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State.
During the outreach, a team of surgeons performed surgeries on more than 100 individuals, including adults and children who are suffering from various ailments which require surgical interventions.
The surgery exercise took place at Wuraola Hospital, Okeho, between November 8 and 10, as hernia and lump surgeries were operated free of charge while health talks were not left out.
On the sideline of the event, a capacity-building training was organised to improve medical expertise among members.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion and former chairman of the council area, Afolabi Salimonu, charged the association to be more committed to mentoring practitioners and monitoring members to uphold quality services and eradicate quackery within the profession.
The State Coordinator of the association, Dr. G.S Ogunsina, reinstated the association’s commitment to service through humanity, saying it is targeting 100,000 indigent Nigerians for free surgical operations on various ailments in the next five years.
