Nationnewslead reports that The Ogun State House of Assembly on Thursday summoned the Oniraniken of Iranike (Elewu Oku), Oba Adewale Adeniji, to appear before the lawmakers January 23.
The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, who announced this at the plenary on Thursday, said the monarch was summoned over allegations of threat to life and invasion of Olumeru Adeyemi Sodiya Family land in Idarika Kanuyi village in Sagamu.
Oluomo threatened that if the monarch failed to appear, the Assembly would invoke section 129 of the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution (as amended) by issuing of warrant of arrest against him.
The Speaker explained that the third invitation extended to the monarch became imperative owing to two previous invitations already extended to him in 2020 which he failed to honour.
It was assembled that the Assembly through its Committee on Lands and Housing led by Hon. Damilola Soneye had earlier summoned the monarch.
Soneye and other lawmakers had earlier engaged concerned members of the community on their petition against the monarch who was expected to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to stem the menace of cultists in Ijebu Ode and its environs.
The Assembly noted that communities within Ijebu Ode, Ijebu North East, Ijebu East and Odogbolu local government areas “currently experiencing avoidable loss of lives resulting from clashes among rival cults.”
