The Nigerian Tribune was basically established to liberate the children of the poor from the shackles of poverty by publishing news that will give them a brighter future. Nigerians believe every news story they read in Tribune as being the truth. Tribune is known as the masses newspaper. Tribune has never hidden the truth in its reporting. Tribune has achieved a lot at 75. Nigerians will continue to celebrate Tribune as it has saved many lives by publishing stories about those who are suffering from one ailment or the other that needs financial assistance.
Some of the editors and reporters of Tribune are fearless journalists who don’t fear to tell the truth to those in positions of authority to do the needful without minding whose ox is gored.
In 1996, I sat for the November/December GCE examination in Ibadan but my result was withheld by WAEC without any reason of examination malpractice.
As a young school leaver who came from poor background and who was also eager to go to the university, I took a bold step to write to Tribune newspaper to have mercy on me by reaching out to WAEC to release my result. That was in 1996 when the current editor was an assistant features editor. He was very happy to see a young school leaver approach them for assistance to compel WAEC to release his result. My article was published by Tribune without collecting a dime from me and consequently, WAEC released my result. To God be the glory, I used the said result to study law. My biggest thanks go to Tribune for touching my life.
It is in view of this that I join other well-meaning Nigerians to celebrate Tribune at 75.
