Tragedy struck in Niger State as no fewer than 17 people were reportedly killed in an auto crash at Takalafia village along the Yawuri Motorway in Magama Local Government Area of the state.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the road traffic crash involved an open-body DAF trailer vehicle, whose driver allegedly engaged in overspeeding, which resulted in a loss of control that caused the lone accident.

It was further gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred around 3:00 am on Tuesday

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Bisi Kazeem, confirmed the accident in a statement issued in Abuja, a copy of which was sighted on Wednesday in Minna, the Niger State capital.

Kazeem noted that the accident involved 29 people, consisting of 20 male adults, 4 female adults, and 5 male children.

He said the injured victims have been evacuated and taken to Kontagora General Hospital for immediate medical attention, pointing out that the dead bodies were deposited in the mortuary section of the same hospital in Niger State.
