Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, has advised corps members deployed to the State to identify themselves as members of the service corps at all times and avoid mixing with miscreants and hoodlums.
She emphasised that the state government prioritises the safety of lives and property, and the NYSC will continue to cater to their well-being and safety.
She also encouraged them to accept their postings in good faith and engage in projects that meet the immediate needs of their host communities.
“Government will continue to strive, more than ever before, to ensure that corps members in all the nooks and crannies of the state receive special security attention.
“Nevertheless, you have a role to play in this by making sure you are identified as corps members all the time and avoid mixing with miscreants and hoodlums,” she advised.
The NYSC Ondo State boss enjoined the members of the service corps to accept their postings in good faith and engrave their names in the hearts of people of various communities who desire the development and transformation of the rural communities by embarking on projects that meet their immediate needs.
“Most of your predecessors have set enviable records in this regard, and you can not afford to let them down. I urge you, therefore, to rededicate yourselves by making the best use of this once in a lifetime opportunity in the service of our people,” she added.
The Coordinator reminded them of the need to obtain permission from the appropriate quarters before they embark on any journey and insisted that they must not travel in the night for any reason.
On skills acquisition, the NYSC helmsman in the Sunshine State appealed to the corps participants to acquire at least one life skill before the end of their service year, asserting that such a move would ensure that they not only contribute to the socio-economic development of Ondo State but Nigeria in general.
She charged them to imbibe and internalise the lessons they have learned within the spell of their orientation course and make them guiding principles throughout the service year and beyond.
“You must, therefore, put yourselves at the forefront of the promotion of our crusade for national re-orientation of rebirth as enunciated by our dear President. You must also give impetus to our quest for a renewed sense of oneness in an egalitarian nation where no man is oppressed”.
