The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has sought more partnerships from well-meaning Nigerians and various bodies in healthcare delivery in Ogun State.
The monarch emphasised the need for collaborative efforts in the provision of amenities and equipment to improve the health sector.
He made the call during the commissioning of a state-of-the-art medical office building donated by the Egbe Arobayo Obinrin Akile Ijebu to the Ogun State General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, as part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of the prominent Regberegbe (age-grade) group in Ijebuland.
The facility, which was estimated at a cost of N60 million, houses the general outpatient department, the medical director’s office, consultation rooms, storage spaces, and modern restrooms, among others.
It was also furnished with required gadgets, air conditioners, and other hospital equipment.
Oba Adetona, who was represented by the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdulrasaq Adenugba, described the Ijebu people as pacesetters and urged other Nigerians to emulate the gesture of the donors towards bridging the gap in healthcare services.
According to the foremost monarch, well-meaning individuals as well as corporate and socio-cultural organisations should not leave the provision of social amenities to the government alone.
He commended members of the Regberegbe group for their generosity, stating that the new hospital building will greatly enhance healthcare delivery in the community.
The Awujale said, “I must say that I am really impressed with the standard of this project executed by the Egbe Arobayo Obinrin to enhance qualitative healthcare delivery in Ijebuland and the state as a whole.”
“This is good; it is a welcome development because it is a project that will further support the government’s desire to improve the health of citizens.”
“I, therefore, appreciate this group for their love for humanity, and I encourage other age-grade groups too, public-spirited individuals, and corporate organisations to make worthy investments in efforts that are tailored towards making life much better for society.”
The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Wellington Ogunsanya, lauded the group for collaborating with the state government in providing qualitative healthcare for the people.
The commissioner assured that the project would be judiciously utilised and adequately maintained, even as she appealed to more Nigerians to support the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration in its determination to make life more meaningful.
Also speaking, the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr Adeoye Banjo, declared that the project marked a significant milestone in the hospital’s journey to provide exceptional healthcare services to the community.
Earlier, the leader and Iyalode of the group, Alhaja Taiwo Odumosu, disclosed that the Egbe Arobayo Obinrin Akile Ijebu, with over 100 members, remained committed to making a positive impact on the community, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
Odumosu said, “Egbe Arobayo Obinrin Akile Ijebu is a social organisation dedicated to promoting unity, cultural heritage, and community development. Our mission is to foster a sense of belonging and responsibility among our members while contributing to the well-being of our community.”
“We believe that this donated building will be a valuable asset to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital, and we look forward to collaborating with the hospital administration to ensure its effective utilisation.”
Dignitaries in attendance at the event included Otunba Afolashade Adesoye, Iya Egbe; Mrs Funmilola Lucas, Spiritual Mother; Mrs Omotola Peter-Akrawa, General Secretary; and Mrs Funmi Oduwole, Treasurer, among others.
