The President of the Great Ipetumodu Youth Movement, Comrade Babalola Taiwo, has publicly raised concerns over the developmental impact of Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi’s initiatives in Osun East Senatorial District, particularly in the Ayedaade community, Yakooyo, and Ipetumodu areas. Comrade Babalola highlighted the Senator’s recent solar light projects as insufficient, accusing him of neglecting broader developmental needs within these communities.
Speaking at a press briefing, Comrade Babalola emphasized the critical role of youth empowerment in community development, remarking, “If you build a young person or empower a young person, you have empowered a community beyond measure.” He argued that Senator Fadahunsi’s contributions fall short in addressing pressing issues affecting local youth and the wider community.
According to Babalola, the Senator recently provided only 20 solar lights to Ayedaade community and Yakooyo, while Ipetumodu received 30 solar lights. These actions, he asserted, are Senator Fadahunsi’s first substantial projects in the constituency since assuming office, which he described as inadequate given the area’s needs.
Babalola further questioned the Senator’s commitment to economic development, highlighting the lack of job opportunities facilitated for young people in Ife North. He criticized the Senator’s apparent lack of investment in security infrastructure, noting an absence of essential equipment such as security vans and motorcycles that could help address local security challenges.
“Look at Ijesa land,” Babalola added, “where numerous projects have been facilitated by the Senator. Yet here in Ife North, we have not seen any significant developmental projects.” This disparity, he argued, leaves his constituency feeling overlooked and undervalued.
The youth leader urged Senator Fadahunsi to draw inspiration from Senator Ajagunla, a first-time senator in the National Assembly, who recently sponsored 20 youths for training programs in China focused on agricultural development and digital economy skills. Babalola noted that while Ajagunla is making strides as a newcomer, Senator Fadahunsi, now in his second term, has yet to meet similar expectations.
He pointed out that Ajagunla’s approach is effectively creating new opportunities for young people and fostering economic growth, setting a standard that Fadahunsi, as a more experienced legislator, should aspire to follow.
Babalola concluded his address by appealing to Senator Fadahunsi to prioritize investments that directly impact youths and the local economy, emphasizing that effective empowerment of young people would yield substantial long-term benefits for the entire community.
The call from Comrade Babalola reflects growing sentiments among community members seeking more proactive and impactful representation in the Senate, with many echoing his concerns about youth and community-focused initiatives.
