Bauchi is set to have two tertiary health facilities as the Federal Government has indicated its intention to upgrade the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare into a Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH).
The Federal Government will also establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Misau to take care of the Central Zone of the state.
The disclosure was made by the Director, Teaching Hospitals, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Salaudden Olawole Jimoh who led other top officials to the Ministry on a visit to the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir at the Government House on Monday.
The Team Lead told the Governor that the visit was an inspection tour to the proposed Federal Teaching Hospital which is situated at the Federal Medical Center, Azare, and the subsequent transition of the Misau General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre.
He acknowledged the initiative of Bala Muhammad’s administration of upgrading the standard of Hospital facilities across the state which he said is among the best in the country.
Salaudeen Jimoh also said that once the Teaching Hospital commences services in Azare, the Federal Government would in turn convert General Hospital, Misau to a Federal Medical Center to further meet the health needs of the people of Bauchi state and beyond.
He also said that the delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has discussed and assessed the current facilities at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) including the achievements of the current Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Yusuf Bara.
He commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his support of various health facilities in the State.
In his response, Bala Muhammad Abdulkadir reaffirmed his commitment towards addressing all critical malfunctioning bothering the Healthcare sector in the state to complement the federal Government’s commitment.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu in upgrading the Healthcare services sector of the nation and recommitted his administration’s zeal to work in synergy with the top level for the benefit of all.
Bala Muhammad expressed delight for the efforts of establishment of additional tertiary health facilities in the state (in Azare and Misau), adding that the state Government is ever ready to support the initiative considering its paramount impacts.
He also said that Bauchi State Government is always prioritizing the payment of counterpart funds to fuel the continuation of Immunization as well as other medical facilities.
He also commended the morale of all Stakeholders who are working in the state, assuring his administration’s determination for the success of the assignments.
Bala Mohammed specifically appreciated the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, saying that the gesture would assist greatly in addressing various challenges facing the health sector in the State.
He further said that his administration will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders in ensuring that people of the state get effective and efficient healthcare service delivery.
