President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to as a matter of urgency call the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Air Marshall Sadique Baba Abubakar to order and caution the security personnel attached to him to avoid being partisan in their line of duties.
The appeal was made by Coalition of United CIVIL Society Organisations in Bauchi State during a press conference held at the NUJ Press Center, on Saturday.
While reading text of the briefing titled: ‘Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar show of Force and violent intimidation in Bauchi State: An open Letter’, the Coalition condemned in strong terms, the violence that has trailed the campaign of the APC candidate leading to loss of lives.
The text of the briefing signed by the Convener, Dr. Yunusa Idris Ndargomi, reads: “For the love peace, progress and development of Bauchi state, the above-named coalition wishes to notify you on the pressing issue at hand as referenced in the above subject matter.”
As contained in the text, the Coalition stated that, “Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar campaign trail has been nothing but a calamity to the good and peace-loving people of Bauchi state, reasons being that”
It claimed that, “His campaign is characterized by show of force and violent intimidation on innocent citizens whom in one way or the other showed disapproving gestures against his aspirations.”
The Coalition added that, “Security attached to him has shot and killed two innocent persons in Akuyam district of Misau LGA while on a campaign tour, reason for that act of violence remains show of intolerance in a democratic setting.”
According to the Coalition, “Same scenario happened in Gumau town of Toro LGA were thugs and security personnel attached to him fired live ammunition into dispersing crowd as they shouted the slogan “Bamayi” in the process injuring scores.”
“Recently, security attached to him also shot about 5 innocent people in Duguri district of Alkaleri LGA of the state, killing 1 person in the process and injuring many,” it further claimed.
The Coalition wrote that, “Mr President may wish to know that, in all the above listed instances, the person in question has never for once, showed empathy and has neither visited the families of the victims, nor sympathized with their families or their communities.”
The Coalition concluded stating that, “This has further confirmed the notion that the APC flag bearer has approved the use of violent intimidation against the innocent citizens he so desires to rule. We thank Mr President and wish him the very best life could offer.”
