The PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has reaffirmed its confidence in the judiciary. The Forum made this assertion at the conclusion of its meeting held at the Tatari Ali House, Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, the PDP has recently faced setbacks at the States’ Election Petition Tribunals and the Appeal Court. Governors Caleb Mutfwang and Dauda Lawal of Plateau and Zamfara States respectively have had their elections overturned by the Appeal Court. Additionally, the appellate court upheld the election of Governor Abdul Sule of Nasarawa against the PDP candidate, David Ombugadu, in a decision delivered on Thursday in Abuja.
However, the chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, addressed the media, describing the judgments affecting PDP governors as temporary setbacks while expressing confidence in the judiciary to administer justice in their cases.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the off-season elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States. The Forum expressed support for INEC’s decision to investigate allegations of pre-filled result sheets even before elections started in some places during the recently concluded elections in these three states.
“The meeting deliberated on various issues of interest and concern to the Forum, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the country and issued the following Communique. The meeting reviewed the recent judgments of the Court of Appeal concerning Governors of various States and noted the mixed outcomes. As a Forum, we once again re-state our overall confidence in the judiciary to do justice. We believe that the Supreme Court will do justice in the cases where we recorded temporary setbacks like Zamfara and Plateau States.
“The meeting also reviewed the off-season elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States. We support the decision of INEC to investigate the allegation of the existence of pre-filled result sheets in some places even before elections started to ensure the confidence of the people in the electoral process.
“On the national economy, the meeting urgently requested the Federal Government to prioritize the introduction of a new Revenue Allocation Formula that gives more money to States and Local Governments to enable them to meet their increased responsibilities,” said Bala Mohammed.
