Five days after a charcoal seller in Zaranda village, along Bauchi-Jos federal highway in Toro LGA of Bauchi State was gruesomely murdered by local hunters, the Senator representing Bauchi South District, Shehu Buba Umar has promised to ensure that justice is done in the case.
Umar made the announcement when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the charcoal seller in Zaranda community, tasking concerned authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and stop extra judicial killings in his district.
According to him, “This killing is unfortunate. The killing of the innocent people who were going about their lawful businesses before they were attacked in Zaranda by a group of militia led by one Shayi.”
The Senator said that he would take action to ensure that the deceased and the injured person got justice.
Recall that the Police had said it gathered from the local residents that a charcoal dealer was arrested by members of a quasi-security outfit, specifically the Nigerian Hunters Forestry and Security Service (NHFSS) and resulted in “sporadic firing (of gun)” by the hunters.
Ahmed Wakil, Spokesman of Bauchi Police Command said in a statement, “This incident led to the serious injury of 35 year old Abubakar Yahaya, 20-year-old Hussaini Yunusa and 16 year old Yayangida Hussaini, all from Zaranda Gari village via Toro LGA.
“They were promptly taken to the Primary Health Care Center Zaranda Gari, where unfortunately, Abubakar Yahaya succumbed to his injuries.”
Meanwhile, the lawmaker used the occasion to announce that there are three road construction projects in his constituency projects for 2024, saying that flag off would commence in the next two weeks.
According to him, “It is in 2024 constituency projects and it is out, the projects have been awarded. The projects will be flagged off in the next two weeks. I have three roads; one from corner Maaji Shittu–Jaji Nabordo, and another one in a village in Rimi Zayam Goljudo to Alhaji DanBaba’s residence at Zaranda.
“But just three days ago, I heard that the Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has come to flag off the construction of that road (Rimi Zayam) but I still have it in my 2024 projects.
“No problem, if the state government said it wanted to do it, let them do it, we will redirect our own to another location within the same town.”
