Two Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) renovated and upgraded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for improved family and child health have been received and commissioned by the Bauchi State Commissioner of Health, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam.
The PHCs are located in Ibrahim Bako Housing Estate and Bununu village, all in Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.
While commissioning the facilities on Monday, the Commissioner expressed delight over the development saying that it will go a long way in boosting healthcare service delivery in terms of maternal and child health.
The Commissioner said, “These facilities will add immensely to the health and wellbeing of the people of the state particularly residents of the areas. It will boost family planning services which is part and parcel of primary healthcare services components.”
Of course, we know that family planning is now most of the highly patronized aspects of Primary Healthcare and so, having a very functional one will help a lot in extending the services to the needed communities in the areas,” he stressed.
According to him, “Governor Bala Mohammed has been giving priority to the health sector and of course family planning is one of it and the overall budget of the state, health sector has consistently received 15 percent above in line with the Abuja declaration on health which is the WHO benchmark on health. We have been lucky in Bauchi state by receiving more than the recommended percentage.”
Sani Mohammed Dambam added, “Family Planning is one of the aspects that are receiving the needed special attention from the Government and support from our International Partners including UNFPA by making FP commodities available in the facilities to promote maternal and child health.”
With the inauguration of a technical working group on FP, the Commissioner stressed, “We are expecting a lot because in Bauchi state we have a very strong community support for our healthcare service initiatives, the traditional institutions led by the Royal Fathers as well as religious leaders and now we have expanded it we have even included Fathers for Good Health which is another arm of the components.”
He stressed, “So, with the inauguration of the Committee and all these supports, we are very sure that the healthcare service in Bauchi state will greatly be improved particularly in the area of Family Planning.”
