The Speaker of the Youths Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) Bauchi State, Rt. Hon. Sani Danaudi Mohammed, has commended the State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for his prompt response to the recent flooding in the state.

He said that the governor’s directive to dispatch a high-powered delegation to assess the damage caused by the flooding across the state was a commendable step towards mitigating the effects of the disaster.

Sani Danaudi Mohammed added that the governor’s personal visit to the affected areas, particularly the Azare-Damaturu-Maiduguri highway, to assess and sympathise with victims demonstrated his leadership commitment and political will to ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent future occurrences.

“This gesture has shown that the governor is dedicated to the welfare of his people and is willing to take concrete steps to address their challenges,” he added.

The YAN Speaker added that the visit of the Federal Government delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi, to sympathise with the Governor, affected areas, and the state at large on behalf of the Federal Government speaks volumes about the good working relationship between the federal and Bauchi state governments.

According to him, “This collaboration is crucial in addressing the flooding crisis and finding lasting solutions.”

The YAN Speaker called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North East Development Commission (NEDC), elected representatives, and political appointees in Bauchi State to support the state government’s efforts in relieving the affected victims.

He stressed that “it is essential that all stakeholders work together to provide succour to those affected by the flooding and to prevent future occurrences.”

He lamented that “this flooding crisis has come at a time when people are already experiencing high food costs, and many have resorted to farming. Unfortunately, these farmlands are being washed away due to flooding, exacerbating the situation.”

“While we cannot question the will of Almighty Allah, we must ensure that waterways are safeguarded and protected to avert future occurrences,” he added.

According to him, “As our part, YAN will continue to partner with authorities, concerns, and communities to ensure that youths in Bauchi become strong partners in changing the narratives for a better future.”

“We are committed to working together to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing our state and our people,” he added.

According to him, “It is crucial to note that while flooding is a natural disaster, community leaders and people must ensure that water channels are not blocked by structures.”

He also stated that “this includes avoiding the construction of buildings and other obstacles that can hinder the free flow of water. By doing so, we can reduce the risk of flooding and mitigate its effects.”

“Furthermore, YAN calls on the state government to embark on a comprehensive assessment of the state’s drainage system and identify areas that require improvement. This will help prevent future flooding and ensure that the state is better prepared to handle such disasters. By working together, we can build a safer and more resilient community for all,” he stated.

He stated that “This is not the time for playing politics when the lives of the people are in imminent danger. The flooding crisis requires a collective effort and a united front from all politicians in the state.”

He also stated that “we must put aside our political differences and work towards improving the lives and well-being of the citizens.”

Sani Danaudi Mohammed called it, “Let us come together to support the state government’s efforts in addressing the flooding crisis and finding lasting solutions.”.

He concluded, “We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to act now and ensure that our state is safe and prosperous for all. By doing so, we can build a brighter future for Bauchi State and its people.”
