Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has stated that the release of Mohammed Bazoum’s wife and son in Niger is a logical step towards restoring normalcy in the country and the broader region.
Tuggar, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Mediation and Security Council, commended the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland of the ruling military junta in Niger for releasing them from house arrest.
He reiterated the call to the government led by General Abdourahamane Tchiani to expedite the release of Mohammed Bazoum from its custody. Tuggar urged them to allow Bazoum to travel to a third country, viewing it as a crucial step towards facilitating further discussions on lifting sanctions and initiating the transition to constitutional rule. This, he emphasized, is essential for the well-being, peace, and stability of Niger and the entire region.
