A pastor of Deeper Life Church, Mokola Group, Ibadan, Pastor Goodness Okoduwa, has charged graduating students of Deeper Life High School (DLHS) to be good ambassadors of the school.
Okoduwa stated this at the valedictory service of the school, which was held at the school hall in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday.
Speaking on the theme A Torch Bearer, Pastor Okoduwa described a torch bearer as an ambassador, a representative, saying the graduating students are expected to bear witness to all they have been taught, heard, seen, and experienced in Christ, the church and the college.
He said, “DLHS is with a difference; you are not educated to the point of ignoring God. Therefore, do not forget all the teachings and training you received here—the disciplined life, devotion, dedication, dutifulness, and distancing from anything that corrupts.
“You were taught not only books but also the Bible so that you would not end up a fool. Let them be part of you throughout life.
“As a torchbearer, let your parents and everyone who meets you see the positive effect of the book-bible education you received at the DLHS—that it impacted not only your brain but your base (heart), body, behaviour, and business (everything you do scholarly, socially, and spiritually).
“A torchbearer escorts and shows the way to others. He leads and inspires others; he is a driving force, an exemplar. Go out there and be one of our ambassadors. He leads and directs; he is first among equals (Deut. 28:13): an authority, guru, innovator, trailblazer, initiator, pillar, anchor, champion, Rock of Gibraltar, moving spirit, an escort that shows others the way, a pattern of behaviour to be imitated, model, epitome, prototype, standard.”
In his remarks, the State Overseer of Deeper Church Life Ministry (DLCM), Oyo State, Pastor Ayo Afolabi, also encouraged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the school, their parents, and the nation.
He said the life they will live after school matters, adding that he’s optimistic that they will be relevant in the community and in the world at large.
In his closing remarks, the principal of the school, Mr. Nathaniel Adeyi, urged the students to be focused on their future.
He said, “The vision of the school is to transform our nation by producing upright leaders of the future through high-quality and sound education, while the mission is to produce students who are academically well grounded, morally upright, and adequately equipped as future leaders.
“DLHS gives youths the kind of education that guarantees a sound future and gives hope to the nation. Likewise, it gives an education that produces a total child. That is, the child is mentally, morally, spiritually, and physically sound.”
