Benjamin Jr. Oluwadamilola Osaze Odusanya Omiyi is arguably the brightest talent the Erin Mills Eagles Soccer Club have developed over the last few decades. Benjamin signed at the age of 8 to Erin Mills Eagles Soccer Club. Benjamin was an established first team regular at Erin Mills Eagles juniors during the 2006 season. He was selected as the Most Valuable Player Of The Eagles at the end of the season after winning the league and leading Erin Mills Soccer Club to a third place Championship table standing finish.
Benjamin Jr. Omiyi was given the moniker GoldenBoy at the end of the domestic season after he led the Erin Mills Eagles Soccer Club team to an unbeaten record winning the league. The 3rd place table standing finish indicates the expansion and promotion of their competitive level to include the best teams in Canada rather than just their province of Ontario. It was a tournament fixture of champions versus champions. This tournament included all of Canada’s winning teams within the age group.
The Erin Mills Eagles Soccer Club had achieved domestic dominance and wanted to continue their development.
Making an impact on national, continental and international competition would be a bigger test of Benjamin’s skills, football IQ, and mental fortitude.
Ultimately the team lost a semifinal game in their conference which would take them to the 3rd place game where they battled to leave the tournament with a consolation third place trophy. In Benjamin’s own words “We play by the Gold standard. We Play To Win. I’m grateful for the 3rd place finish and a trophy is a trophy. but I feel like we should have been the team lifting the 1st place trophy…We played with class and exemplified fair play. I did the best I could Individually but football is a collective performance. Regardless we celebrate all wins”
This statement highlights the tactical importance of his role to the overarching team philosophy. He brought a respect factor. An Essential player to the team’s success.Theres a certainty about the way Benjamin Omiyi plays that you get the sense that he is in full control. A blur of skill, speed composure, Extreme self confidence. Bravery that borders on rudeness and complete disrespect for opponents. Like a thunderclap every time he strikes the ball. If there was a blueprint for a superstar athlete it would be Benjamin.
Now in 2023, this 1998 baby has matured into a reputable gridiron football player, a recognizably skilled basketball player, an industry notable musician/mogul, a prominent public figure, and future politician. However, we will always remember him as GoldenBoy Cares, our leader, the winning footballing genius of the beautiful game. It is rightfully so that he continues his prolific footballing career in the professionals.
A one and done for our Erin Mills Eagles but Benjamin Jr. Oluwadamilola Osaze Odusanya Omiyi left an impression for the ages.
