We read with disdain the uncouth response of Mallam Olawale Rasheed, titled “Your Poor Performance in Office Disqualifies You from Rating Governor Adeleke.” Here, we reiterate His Excellency Benedict Olugboyega Alabi’s comments for Rasheed’s better understanding of the issues.
Benedict Alabi’s critique of Governor Adeleke’s administration is a necessary call for accountability and transparency. However, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, responded with personal attacks and broad claims, undermining constructive political discourse.
Rasheed’s response lacks decorum and substance, dismissing Alabi’s concerns without evidence. Alabi’s right to hold public officials accountable is fundamental to democracy, regardless of his past role. Rasheed’s accusations against the Oyetola administration are unsubstantiated and lack specificity.
The current administration’s hasty projects raise concerns about sustainability and financial management. Comparing tenures oversimplifies governance issues and ignores systemic challenges. Oyetola’s administration made significant strides despite limited resources, and Alabi’s comments highlight the need for sustainability, transparency, and accountability.
The effective utilization of resources is crucial, not just the amount allocated. The Adeleke administration’s controversial projects and contracts raise questions about transparency and adherence to public procurement laws. For instance, awarding a contract to build a flyover at Lameco Junction without conducting an Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) and professional soil testing raises serious concerns. The fact that the contractor only discovered the unsuitability of the soil after the contract was awarded suggests a lack of due diligence and potential corruption.
In conclusion, Rasheed should know that constructive criticism and open dialogue are essential for Osun State’s growth, not lengthy empty responses and name-calling. His defensive posture and lack of substantive engagement hinder progress. Transparent data and addressing specific concerns are necessary for meaningful discourse.
