Benue State Government has promised to work towards repositioning the basic education system in the state.

Part of the initiative introduced is the introduction of automation of primary school teachers’ salaries as an incentive to boost the morale of the teachers.

The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Secretary, Dr Joseph Jande, and other members of the board stated this on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Makurdi.

Jande said that the board members have been working in synergy with the executive chairman to tackle some problems inherited on assumption of office in December, 2023.

Though silent on the problems inherited Jande said, “That is why we are all collaborating to make sure that this organisation moves forward from where it was. We are making efforts both in administration and in structures to make sure that the board is accorded general face-lift.

“We are doing our best to make sure that the problems we met on ground are tackled. We want to ensure that members of staff are diligent in their work and that the basic education system in Benue State is properly positioned

Also, a member representing Benue North East senatorial district on the board, Paul Ebe regretted that before now, primary school teachers had been contending with several issues among them the deduction of their salary without any reason.

Ebe said, “With the commencement of the automation of teachers’ salaries the issues we had in the past including the deduction of teachers’ salaries without cogent reasons will be a thing of the past, there will be no problems with salary payment anymore.”

In his contribution, another member of the board, Prince Andy Uwouku said that there is synergy among the members right from the executive chairman, reason he said was responsible for the innovation being carried out by the board.

Uwouku said, “We have commenced the automation of the payroll of teachers as well as the complete renovation of the headquarters and provision of facilities all with the approval of the board”.
