The Executive Chairman, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, on Tuesday commissioned a newly-done landscaped and interlocked section of the Board’s headquarters.

This project covering 513 square metres of the Board’s landmass of above 3,000 square metres is spearheaded by the Benue State Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON).

This initiative, according to the press statement by the information officer, Akese Emmanuella is a unique display of support from unions to enhance the working environment within the civil service.

During the ceremony, Dr. Adagba commended the partnership from AOPSHON, “It’s uncommon for a union to support an office in providing amenities,” she stated, appreciating NCSU for previously installing toilet facilities and AOPSHON for its role in beautifying and interlocking sections of the headquarters.

She reiterated Governor Alia ‘s commitment to the welfare of teachers, including timely payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities, as well as payment of salary arrears, recruitment of teachers, and infrastructure improvement across schools.

Dr. Adagba also clarified the process for handling salary arrears, highlighting that payments are managed by the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) due to the automation of SUBEB’s salary system.

“The payment vouchers were prepared before the new payroll system. As such retired and deceased staff are not on the current payment platform. This arrangement ensures that all eligible staff receive what is due for them, as automated systems exclude those who have retired or are deceased from the current payment platform,” she explained.

In his remarks, Comrade Gideon Achirgbenda, State Chairman of AOPSHON, lauded Dr. Adagba’s transformative leadership, which has rapidly elevated the Board’s headquarters to an ultramodern facility.

He lauded Governor Hyacinth Alia’s dedication to the “New Benue Agenda,” comparing him to “the Moses of our time,” and expressed pride in AOPSHON’s support for SUBEB’s ongoing modernization.

Representing the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Secretary Pori Justin applauded Dr. Adagba’s accomplishments and assured the Board of the union’s continued support.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Joseph Jande, the SUBEB Board Secretary, expressed gratitude to AOPSHON and encouraged other unions and stakeholders to collaborate with the Board to elevate the standard of basic education in Benue State.
